Mr. Anthony's Class 10/11/18

In Mr. Anthony's class, the children have been building obstacle courses this week.  Look at these children helping each other!

Children also enjoyed playing together in the sand.

In preparation for the Georgia Firefighter visit, Mr. Anthony read a story called Fire Station written by Robert Munch at circle and taught the children a new Firetruck song.

We played a Mystery Box Game and had a great time in gym class with Mr. Allard and Hula Hoops!

Georgia Firefighters Teach the Preschoolers about Fire Safety

The Georgia Firefighters came to school today to teach the preschoolers about fire safety.

We learned about dialing 911 to get help from the police, firefighters or the ambulance.

We learned how to crawl on the floor to avoid breathing in too much smoke.

We learned how to STOP, DROP & ROLL

We learned about not touching matches or lighters, that we should get an adult if we see a match or lighter on the floor.

We practiced finding EXIT signs in the library.

We learned about fire alarms.

Fire Extinguishers

We learned how important it is to have plans in case of an emergency.  Please talk about where you will meet outside if there is a fire in your home.  It is so important to make plans as a family!

We learned about HOT things and how not to touch HOT things.

Children learned that parents should check bath water before children get in the tub.

We learned that we shouldn't leave our toys on the stairs, someone might fall.

We should wear bike helmets!

We should use car seats and seat belts.

The Georgia Firefighters then got dressed into their gear so that the children could see that they were friendly people under all that equipment.

We went outside to see one of the Georgia Firetrucks...

The firefighters gave us water bottles and fire helmets!

Thank you Georgia Firefighters!

Mrs. Howrigan's Class 10/10/18

Mrs. Howrigan is teaching her classes what it means to be safe in the classroom.  She has visuals that represent different ways that children can help keep it safe in the classroom.  They have discussed what the different visuals mean and she provides the children with examples of safe behaviors.

Mrs. Howrigan's students are willing to keep things safe in the classroom.  They demonstrate their willingness by putting their pictures in the "Safe Keeper"  Box.  Mrs. Howrigan is always on the lookout to "catch" children being safe so that she can recognize their efforts.  Please ask your children to tell you about the Safe Keeper Box and ways that they help keep their classroom safe.

We also learned a new song called Mat Man

We used the Handwriting Without Tears Shapes to sing and build a person together.  The song helps children remember the body parts that a person has when they try to draw a person on their own.

In gym class, Mr. Allard introduced Hula Hoops.  He even did a magic trick!

We had a lot of fun with those Hula Hoops!
