There are Bears in Mr. Anthony's Classroom!

Mr. Anthony read The Three Snow Bears written by Jan Brett last Thursday.  Children discussed the similarities and differences between this story and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

They also played a new circle game of "What's Missing?"  Mr. Anthony laid out five common classroom items and each child had the chance to guess which item Mr. Anthony took away.

After circle and snack, we made bear masks!  Making bear masks was an opportunity to observe and learn about how each child uses scissors.  Children had different levels of experience with scissors.

The children cut out two bear ears for their mask.  It is important for children to have opportunities  to learn to use scissors safely and responsibly.

All of the children impressed me with their hard work and perseverance.

Once children finished their masks they wrote their names on the back of their mask.  Another opportunity for teachers to learn what children knew about writing their names.  Some children used wavy line writing, some children made marks or letter like forms for each letter in their name and some children made a letter or all of the letters in their name.  There is so much to learn about the children at the beginning of the school year.  A simple project that gave us a lot of information about the children.

These children are painting their masks!

These "bears" will be coming to your houses     soon!  Encourage your child to retell the story   of  Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Your child may also come home singing a new bear song or two...
